Mazda’s newest car, the compact CX-3 crossover is promising to offer the best driving dynamics of any car in the class, with an affordable price to boot. While we won’t be able to make a final call on the driving dynamics, one thing we know for sure is that the CX-3 will sip less gas than any other small crossover you can get today. The EPA has just rated the compact family-hauler for an astounding 29 mpg in the city with a highway rating of 35 mpg. That works out to a combined 31 mpg.
Mazda says the newfound fuel efficiency is all thanks to its suite of Skyactiv technology. A 2.0-liter engine, lightweight body and light, yet stiff chassis all contribute to pushing those EPA ratings in the right direction. If you want to take one of these new machines home, sales start this March, and if you don’t mind giving up a few MPGs, you can order one with AWD as well.
