The OG of the premium SUV segment will soon see a production increase at its Cambridge, Ontario Canada home. With the entire lineup of Lexus RX crossovers being built under Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada’s watchful eye, the automaker is looking to strengthen its North American market share greatly within the next few years. By boosting capacity by 30,000 units annually, Lexus should have zero trouble staying strong in a highly competitive segment.
“This Lexus production increase, and the several announcements before it, reflects our growing optimism for an improving North American market and our intent to localize more production,” said Steve St. Angelo, Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing North America. The Lexus RX has been the go-to premium crossover since its debut more than a decade ago. With multiple variants including a hybrid and upcoming F Sport, no version will be left unfinished as the increase affects each and every one. Of the 104,000 Lexus vehicles to be produced in Canada by 2014, 15,000 of those will be the RX450h hybrid. The increase will be made possible by a $100 million investment that will create approximately 400 new jobs.
