It has only been a few days since Lexus pulled the covers off their next hybrid concept and it’s already earning trophies. While sitting pretty at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, a select panel of Judges gave the just-revealed LF-LC 2+2 Hybrid Sports Coupe this year’s EyesOn Design Award. The accolade is given to the most significant design on display and given the large number of 2012 candidates, Lexus should truly be proud of the achievement. Born from an experiment, the LF-LC is a blatant exercise by Toyota’s Calty design studio in Newport Beach, California. “The LF-LC was a dream car to design and a true collaborative effort at Calty,” said Kevin Hunter, president of Calty. “It is an honor to have that work recognized by our peers and to receive the EyesOn Design Award.”
Made up of a grouping of leaders in North American and International automotive design, the EyesOn Design judges are a tough crowd to please. Not only are new concepts judged by aesthetics and innovation, but their functionality as well. With its sleek body and obviously efficient hybrid powerplant, the LF-LC should be an indication that Lexus will soon try to mesh economy with fast. “The LF-LC is a striking design and breathtaking in its beauty,” said Mark Templin, Lexus group vice president and general manager. “The team at Lexus quickly fell in love with this concept vehicle and it’s rewarding to see that the industry agreed. Receiving the EyesOn Design Award is a great start to what promises to be a fantastic year for Lexus.”
