More good news is coming from the North American International Auto Show as Lexus announces they’re bringing the updated IS series sedans. This marks the world debut for the IS 250, IS 350, and IS F-Sport package.
Bold exterior design
With its swooping lines and contrasting sharp angles, the polarizing appearance is sure to raise eyebrows as Lexus brings the same design language from models like the LFA. There’s no question Lexus intends the IS to be a sports sedan.
Speaking of sport, the F-Sport package is available across the entire IS lineup. Adding even more aggressive styling that differentiates it from its lesser brethren, the F-Sport is aimed squarely at the BMW 3 series.
The F-Sport grille design features a higher waistline than the standard IS, enlarging the lower grille area for increased air intake. All IS front ends feature Lexus’ trademark L-shaped Daytime Running Lights and “spindle” architecture.
Lexus didn’t stop at refreshing just the exterior
The cabin benefits from a lengthened wheelbase that increases rear seat legroom and includes new 60/40 split folding seats. The front seats enjoy the industry’s first integrated subscription-free traffic and weather system that gives real-time updates.
The F-Sport’s interior features some of the sporting bits from the LFA, including the digital gauge cluster that allows for customizable configurations of the car’s critical information.
Also debuting for first time is the Lexus IS 300h, the first IS sedan with Lexus’ Hybrid Drive technology. Unfortunately, the Detroit Autoshow is as close to the U.S. as the IS 300h will come. The international markets will reap the benefits of added fuel efficiency. We can only hope Lexus decides to bring the IS 300h to the States.
More information will come to light next week when Lexus gives us the skinny on things like performance numbers and pricing. Look for the IS family to hit dealers this summer.
