If you are even a casual reader of AutoTalk.com, you will know we have a very strong fondness for Lego. The tiny colored bricks combine to create anything our imagination can conjure and more. Our current favorite kits are the Speed Champions sets, but after today’s announcement, we may be moving this Technic kit up the ladder to greatest Lego creations that exist. It is a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and its one of the biggest and most complicated sets the company has ever created.
It features more than 2,700 pieces, and when its assembled the final car is nine inches wide, six inches tall, and its nearly two feet long. That makes it a 1:8 scale model.
It comes with pieces colored Lave Orange, to match the production model, and the kit includes altered working versions of the full drivetrain including a functional replica of the PDK transmission with steering mounted paddles that you can actuate. Again, all built using just Lego pieces. It’s beyond amazing.
Now for the painful part, the price. This kit will run you a full $300, which is anything but cheap. It comes with exclusive pieces, in a very special package, and each kit contains a unique brick with a serial number, all to help justify the cost.
Despite the price, I still want one, and plan on doing anything I can score one. If you guys want one of your own, it goes on sale June 1st. I expect it to sell out very fast, so have your credit card at the ready the evening of May 31st for the best chance to get your order in. And yes, if I manage to get my hands on one of these, we will have a speed-build video. I’d also be open to livestreaming the build in real time. If you think that would be cool, leave a comment below.
If you want to get a closer look at this Porsche, watch the video below. It goes over all the unique pieces, provides a good visual representation of size, and lets you see the PDK paddles in action.
