South Korea's second largest carmaker Kia Motors said Wednesday it would sell a new hatchback model in Europe early next year to boost small-car sales.
Kia, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor, said the new model “Soul” with a choice of three engine types — 2-litre gasoline, 1.6-litre gasoline and 1.6-litre diesel — will hit the European market from February.
It plans to sell the model in the United States and elsewhere from April.
The five-door hatchback with front-wheel drive “will defy conventions and appeal especially to the young and the young-at-heart — whatever their age,” Kia said in a statement.
