Following an historic year in 2010 that included important milestones such as the company’s best-ever full-year sales, a 16th consecutive year of market share growth, and the launch of the company’s first U.S.-built vehicle1, Kia Motors America (KMA) announced record January sales of 27,789 units, besting the previous January record of 22,524 set in 2007 by 23.4-percent. January’s strong sales performance represents a 25.6-percent increase over the same period in 2010 and the 2011 Sorento CUV was the company’s best-selling vehicle for the thirteenth straight month. Demand for the highly acclaimed all-new Optima remains strong as the midsize sedan continues to arrive in retail showrooms nationwide.
“Coming off a banner year that featured nine monthly sales records, our strong January performance is a direct result of the increased consumer awareness and consideration for the Kia brand created by eye-catching vehicles such as the all-new Optima,” said Byung Mo Ahn, group president and CEO of KMA and Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia. “Kia’s growth and momentum will continue in 2011 with the introduction of several new vehicles and technologies that deliver on Kia’s core principles of quality, safety and value while meeting the needs of today’s consumers in the areas of performance, efficiency and connectivity.”
