The Kia Motors assembly plant located in West Point, Georgia has announced it is planning for an increase in production. Starting in 2012, the plant estimates an annual capacity of 360,00 vehicles that will require expansions of the four main factory shops. The stamping, welding, paint and general assembly areas will all be expanded and approximately 1,000 new hires as well as new assembly line robots will be put to work.
One reason for the increase is due to the 2012 Optima being added to West Point’s build list. Along side the Sorento, the Optima will begin its production run in September 2011. This is all because of a $100 million investment by Kia Motors.
“The success of the West Point, Georgia plant is the result of the dedication of our team members and the world-class quality that goes into each vehicle we build, and the increased volume and addition of new team members is further evidence of our commitment to the U.S. and local economies,” said Byung Mo Ahn, group president and CEO of Kia Motors America.
