With June 2012 out-of-the-way, the American automotive industry has released its sales figures for the month’s 27 selling days. Easily seen as a success, vehicles were purchased with a general increase compared to last year with the exception of just a few. The continual trend of falling large car sales was no different in June as just 587 big-bodied sedans found new homes. Year-to-date, the large car has only managed to unload 4,700 units which is down 89.5 percent from this time 2011. The only other segment to see a decrease was the luxury SUV which, with 12,448 sold, fell just .4 percent. And in the truck versus car battle, the sedans, wagons and coupes just managed to take the top spot with 659,375 sold compared to 626,180 for their workhorse siblings.

Stop the presses because the Ford F-Series Pickup truck managed to take first place in individual sales once again. Surprising in the very least, the blue oval wonder saw a 10.9 percent increase compared to last June with 55,025. That figure is more than 20,000 units more than the second place which, for the first month in a while, wasn’t the Toyota Camry. Overtaking the Japanese sedan by just a hair was the Chevrolet Silverado which managed to find 33,566 new owners. While the third place Camry is still working its way back up the ladder with a 50.2 percent increase from last year, other Toyotas have been jumping up even faster. With a remarkable 341.2 percent increase from June 2011, the Prius hybrid may have sold just 19,150, but its jump was easily the most substantial.

June saw more than just one manufacture breaking the 200,000 barrier as both General Motors and Ford saw total vehicle sales of 248,750 and 207,04 respectively. Both figures were a solid increase from last year with GM seeing the larger jump. Thrid and fourth place fell to Toyota and Chrysler LLC who witnessed increases as well by 60.3 and 20.3 percent respectively. On the other end of the spectrum, Mitsubishi fell by 34.8 percent with only 5,411 total units sold while Saab, who sold just 16 new vehicles, dropped 95 percent from last year.

Throughout the entire month of June 2012, the United States purchased 1,285,555 new cars and trucks: an increase of 22.1 percent. Among those vehicles, 228 of them were Maseratis. Not to be out-done, Ferrari sold 257 units and Porsche found 3,002 new owners. Bently outsold Rolls Royce with 223 to 23 and during 27 selling days of June, a total of 4 all-new Maybachs were purchased.
