Jaguar and Land Rover now have a brand-new assembly plant located in Pune India. In the Maharashtra region, the new facility will assemble the Land Rover Freelander 2 SUV and supply them to the Indian market. With Jaguar Land Rover’s parent company, Tata Motors being based in India, the new work space’s location makes perfect sense.
“Today marks a significant step in our growth strategy for the Indian market. The opening of this plant demonstrates close co-operation between the parent company Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover and we are keen to develop this further,” said Carl-Peter Forster, Chief Executive Officer and MD of Tata Motors. The opening ceremony was put together by Forster and Dr Ralf Speth, Chief Executive Officer of Jaguar Land Rover.
The factory will be overseen by experienced Jaguar Land Rover managers who have moved from the UK to India. The main goal of the plant is to further the Land Rover name and assist in the mainstream launch of the brand in the Indian market. Potentially, the plant could produce parts for the sports car and luxury sedan specialist, Jaguar. When that might happen is still up in the air.
