For the last few years, Red Bull has been the absolute dominant force in Formula One racing. The team has seen four back-to-back Championships for both Driver Sebastian Vettel and the Constructor’s Championship as well. The team has been unstoppable force, but then came the 2014 rules change that dictated the move to new engines and everything fell apart.
In the first race of the season, start driver Daniel Ricciardo, the man that took third place overall last year, only manage to finish sixth, while Red Bull’s second car didn’t even start the race. The fault mostly lies with the new Renault engine, but Red Bull’s adviser Helmut Marko feels that the entire range of new turbocharged V6 engines is the wrong move for the sport, regardless of Red Bull’s performance.
He went so far as to say, “The technical rules are not understandable, much too complicated, and too expensive” when discussing the new engine regulations. He said the Red Bull’s owner Dietrich Mateschitz could lose interest in F1 racing, adding, “If we are totally dissatisfied we could contemplate an F1 exit.”
This could just be pandering to see a change in the rules, but it is very obvious that Red Bull is not happy with the current rules.
