Infiniti has just released pricing for its new Q50 S Red Sport 400, and they have just made this machine a much more appealing option for buyers everywhere. The starting price for a base 400 Red Sport is just $47,950. That makes it slightly more expensive than a base BMW 340i, and slightly cheaper than a base Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG. At first blush that isn’t very impressive, but remember that base cars don’t really exist in the market place. With that in mind, let’s take it up to the top end of the scale and see how things work out.
If you add every option you can to a Q50 S Red Sport 400, up to and including AWD and backlit door sills, your total will be $59,545. A 340i xDrive with similar equipment is $62,345. The Mercedes fares a bit better and rings in at $60,695. And both of those cars are less powerful than the Infiniti. The Mercedes is down by about 40 horsepower, and the BMW is short by a whopping 80 horsepower.
You could easily argue that the Q50 S is not as well built or luxurious as the two Germans, but when you consider that those two machines offer less performance at a higher price, things start to change. Personally, I can live with a slightly cheaper interior if I can save $3,000 and have almost 30-percent more power than an equivalent BMW.
If you want to build your own Q50 S Red Sport to see how it compares in price to your favorite luxury sedan, Infiniti has the new pricing live on its car configurator at the Infiniti website. Head over there now and have fun.
