Infiniti has a big year planned for 2014 with the naming revamp, a few new models, and now a hybrid system coming to the QX60.
The biggest news about the QX60 Hybrid is obviously the fuel economy. Infiniti anticipates a combined average of 26 mpg, which is expected to be best-in-class for any 7-passenger luxury crossover.
The hybrid system uses a 2.5-liter supercharged inline-four cylinder engine and a 15 kW electric motor routing power through a CVT to the front wheels. All-wheel-drive will be an option. Expected combined output is 250 horsepower and should match the performance of the current 3.5-liter V-6.
Infiniti says the hybrid system won’t cost the QX60 any interior volume as due to its compact Li-ion battery being located under the third row seats. What the hybrid system will cost is roughly $3,000 to the QX60’s bottom line.
Look for the QX60 to be officially released at the New York Auto Show in late March. It should hit dealer showrooms this summer. Pricing hasn’t been released yet, but the current QX60 – the JX35 prior to its 2014 name change – retails for $42,245. Tack on the $3,000 for the hybrid bits, and we expect the 2014 QX60 to retail for around $45,000.
