It hasn’t been too long since the 2012 Hyundai Veloster first showed up on dealership floors, but its trophy case already seems to be crowded. The innovative little three door coupe recently earned one more for its overall design. For the 2011 edition of the Good Design Awards put on by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design along with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, Hyundai’s latest car was recognized enough to earn an award. A jury of non-gearhead design professionals, architects, experts, and cultural leaders made up this year’s panel of judges, so it is truly special when a car makes it on the award list.
“Veloster stands out from the crowd with a stylish yet functional design. We’re honored that Good Design is recognizing the beautiful design and unique personality of the car,” said Scott Margason, director, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. Founded in 1950, the Good Design Awards look to the world’s most prominent designers and manufactures in order to find honestly new builds. In order to make it on the list, a piece of engineering must be new, innovative, visionary and stretch the thinking of an ordinary design. The Veloster, with its unique three door layout, tapered rear and signature face is a car that looks thousands of dollars more expensive than it really is.
