In order to accompany the big bore V8 RM500 Genesis Coupe built by Rhys Millen Racing, Hyundai has teamed up with Magnuson Products, Harman International and Torvec Inc. as well as RMR again to create the Hurricane SC. A product of Hyundai America Technical Center Inc., the SC rides on the ‘Korean Mustang’ Genesis was made with mostly Hyundai-sourced performance parts that span a two development process. “Our HATCI engineers have been working for years with Magnuson to ensure high engine output is available on future Hyundai vehicles,” said David Dutko, senior engineer at Hyundai America Technical Center Inc. (HATCI).

Where as the RM500 makes its power the old fashion way, the Hurricane uses something a little different. Strapped to the already installed DOHC Lambda 3.8 liter V6 is a Magnuson supercharger. Pushing between 6 and 7 lbs of boost, the engine’s output has been raised by about 40 percent for a total horsepower rating higher than 450. A liquid to air intercooler should keep things together while a modified exhaust and intake system let the supercharger work more effectively. DeatschWerks high flow fuel pump and 600cc injectors also support the Hurricane while a limited slip differential supplied by Torvec Inc. helps the wider Hankook tires and 19 inch Enkei wheels get that power to the ground. With suspension tuning taken place on the famed Nurburgring, the Bilstein supplied shocks and springs keep things flat and big, Brembo brakes with six piston calipers make sure the Hurricane will stop every single time.

The body lines differ from the RM500 just as much as the engine does. A lower-than-low front bumper with aggressive cuts and angles was added as well as special air ducts for the intercooler. With its massively low front lip and slanted rear bumper, the Hurricane carries a much more aftermarket look to it compared to the V8 car. Carbon fiber litters the body; even covering the hood and trunk. More than likely, the SC will have a future in Hyundai-backed parts rather than a full-blown production.
