Following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, many Japanese automakers were forced to slow down production including Honda North America. With numerous parts and components coming from across the sea to be put on North American Hondas, the disaster put a huge damper on shipping and production. Recently, Honda announced that they plan on increasing production and should reach 100 percent for the month of August.

“The light at the end of the tunnel is glowing brighter for us, represented by this significant improvement in our production situation,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. The production and shipping of Japanese parts has drastically increased and will help Honda North America to rev up production of vehicles such as the CR-V, Acura RDX, Odyssey and many others. The only Honda model not to reach 100 percent by August will be the 2012 Civic, which will continue production at 50 percent until key components can be accessed.
