Due to an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a very select group of Honda Odyseey minivans are being recalled. So far, there are only a total of nine vans at risk. The problem revolves around the front suspension, which may not have been properly installed. There is a possibility that the retention nut for the front right lower suspension damper bolt was not torqued down to specification. If this is the case, the nut would loosen meaning that the front hub assembly would only be attached to the subframe by one bolt. This would allow the wheel assembly to move freely and in an “extreme inward” angle. If the nut is gone, then the end result would be an Odyssey with no ability to steer.
Honda is recalling 2012 model year vans manufactured from October 31 through November 30, 2011. Since there is such a small number of Odysseys affected, Honda will notify the owners one-by-one via phone. Certified dealerships will remedy the vans by replacing the retention nut at no extra cost to owners.
