American Honda will be voluntarily recalling two popular vehicles for unrelated issues. The first will be certain editions of the 2006 model year CR-V crossover followed by a select grouping of 2011 model year CR-Z hybrid coupes. The power window master switch is the crossover’s culprit while the manual transmission software controller is to blame for the hybrids recall.
80,111 2006 CR-Vs feature an interior design that can allow excess build up of cleaning agent inside the master window switch. This can deteriorate the contacts for the switch which could lead to a spark and subsequently an electrical fire. Unrelated, the software that controls hybrid electric motor on 5,626 manual transmission 2011 CR-Zs is in need of an update. When the gasoline engine cuts out while the Integrated Motor Assembly (IMA) battery is at a low state of charge, the electric motor can rotate in the opposite direction that the in-gear transmission has selected. This means that the CR-Z could roll backwards when it is in first gear. The software update should be all that is needed to remedy the issue with the IMA.
Honda will begin the process of notifying its customers of these issues late September. Owners of these CR-Vs and CR-Zs will be able to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership so problems can be fixed.
