Due to a manufacturing error, American Honda will be issuing a voluntary recall on certain Accord sedans and Crosstour utilities. The problem lies within the vehicle’s front curtain air bag system. Both the passenger and driver side units could be at risk because Honda believes that the inflators may not have been installed to the proper specification. This means that in the event of an accident, the curtain air bags would not deploy.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles are all 2012 model year cars. At this time, there are approximately 347 Hondas at risk and the recall is expected to begin on or around February 10, 2012. Certified dealers will inspect the Accord and Crosstours and in needed, replace the entire curtain air bag system and do so at no extra cost to owners.
