On September 19, 2012, the next generation of Honda Accord will arrive at U.S. dealerships. When it does, it will bring to the industry a wealth of new standard features and the same tried-and-true Honda strength that has made the namesake so successful. With so many different options and trims to pick from, any type of driver should be able to find an Accord best suited for their wants and desires. To make matters even more intriguing, Honda will offer the car for as little as $21,680.
Compared to the 2012 edition, the 2013 Accord’s base MSRP is just $200 more. Given that the new car will come with standard features such as alloy wheels, rearview camera, bluetooth connectivity, USB/iPod integration, Pandora internet radio compatibility, text message read-back, dual zone automatic climate control and a 160-watt stereo, the slight increase is easily justified. For a little more, extra items such as leather, navigation, LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, cloud-based HondaLink and blind spot monitoring can be equipped.
The starting out LX comes with a Honda first: a direct injected inline four-cylinder. A product of the Earth Dreams program, the 2.4 liter dual cam engine uses the famed Vtec variable valve timing to produce 185 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. Going against the trend will be a standard six speed manual transmission but for $800 more, Honda’s next generation CVT can be equipped. In order to get six cylinders, an Accord must be first fitted out as an EX-L which starts at $27,995 with the 2.4 and CVT. Adding those two extra pistons will cost $2,075 but will earn drivers 278 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque. When four doors are present, the single cam and port injected 3.5 liter can only be matched to the all-new six speed automatic but in Coupe form, a six speed manual comes standard.
The sedan will debut first while the two door will follow shortly after and hit dealerships October 15. For $23,350, a 2.4 six speed LX-S Coupe can be purchased. The most expensive four door, the loaded-0ut Touring V6, will start at $33,430 while the highest ranking two door – the EX-L Navi V6 – will go for $32,350.
