Not too long ago, Honda made the announcement that their multi-talented utility wagon, the Crosstour, would be receiving a new base engine. For the first release models in 2010, the sole powerplant was six cylinder power motivating all four wheels but not anymore. Joining the fray will be two less cylinders and two less drive wheels as the new base Crosstour EX is hitting U.S. dealerships now. Raising both value and economy, the 2.4 liter inline four cylinder block will start at $27,655.

Not only does the 2012 model year bring a new engine, but new standard features as well. A auto-dimming rear view mirror, auto on/off headlamps, bluetooth hands free phone pairing, a USB audio interface and a rearview mirror back-up camera are featured on all Crosstours including the EX. Moving the newly added features can be 192 horsepower from the 2.4 liter i-VTEC four cylinder and five speed automatic, which is still the only transmission available on all trims. Able to achieve 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, the base Crosstour bests its 3.5 liter V6 sibling at the pump by three and two mpg respectively. If more is wanted on the inside of a 2.4 Crosstour, than the $32,805 EX-L can be purchased which comes with leather seating and optional navigation.

“The new four-cylinder Crosstour offers sleek design, unmatched passenger comfort and ingenious functionality now with four-cylinder pricing and fuel economy,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co. “With four-cylinder and V6 options and a long list of standard features, Crosstour should be on every CUV buyer’s shopping list.”
