Honda has issued a recall for 2012 – 2013 CR-V and Odyssey, along with the 2013 Acura RDX relating to the brake-shift interlock safety.

Apparently, during sub-freezing temperatures, the brake-shift interlock blocking mechanism can become slow, allowing the gear shifter to move from Park without the brake pedal being depressed. This creates concern about vehicles unintentionally moving, rolling away, or engaging a gear without the driver’s knowing.

Without this safety feature in working order, the vehicles violate the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 114, “Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention.”

Honda will begin contacting owners May 13 about the issue. The issue can be fixed at any Honda or Acura dealer and no cost to the owner.
