The official announcement was made a few days ago that two high-end motorsports will soon merge to form an all-new series. Mainly driven by financial reasons, the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) and the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series are looking to battle it out on U.S. race tracks together by 2014. While some ALMS teams tend to find distaste for the Grand-Am cars, the merger should benefit enough people to make any and all previous grips disappear. One manufacture who has been involved with ALMS for years, Honda, recently issued an official announcement themselves and prototype heavy hitter is all for it.

“We look forward to taking part in a new, combined North American road-racing series, featuring a defined rules package that maintains sports car racing’s traditional role as a technological leader and innovator,” said Art St. Cyr, President of Honda Performance Development (HPD). Since 2007, Honda has been campaigning a LMP class race car and for the past three years, the brand has earned the class title championship. When the merger goes full-blown in a couple of years, Honda may be fine and dandy but they’ll more than likely have to stay on their toes to hustle around some seriously fast Grand-Am racers.
