Due to certain model year Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks failing to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208 requirements, General Motors has issued a recall. The standard, “Occupant Crash Protection”, requires all vehicles to warn drivers and passengers if and when a occupant’s seat belt is not fastened. The driver belt buckle electrical connection terminals may not have been fully seated with the terminal pins during the truck’s manufacturing and could cause an intermittent circuit. If affected, the warning chime may not emit and or the warning light may not illuminate if a seat belt is left un-done.
General Motors will begin its notification process on or before November 30, 2011. The trucks being recalled are 2012 model year Canyons and Colorados built between September 9 and October 19, 2011. So far, a total of 5,220 trucks could be potentially affected. If the issue reveals itself, a certified GM dealer will replace the seat belt electrical connector terminals at no added cost to the truck’s owner.
