General Motors is recalling more than 145,000 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks this month due to reportedly missing secondary hood latches. The resulting effect can lead to the hood flying open at highway speeds causing the driver to lose visibility of the road.

The problem stems from the latches being completely absent on certain models of GM trucks made between 2010 and 2012. GM has confirmed they know of four instances of missing secondary hood latches. As a precaution, the trucks suspected of having the issue are under the recall and would be fixed under warranty. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the issue could become especially dangerous if malfunctions occur at highway speeds.

The recall covers 2010-2012 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks sold in both the US and overseas. GM will be contacting owners of affected vehicles by letter beginning this month. Owners can have their vehicles inspected at GM dealerships, and if deemed necessary, the entire hood will be replaced.
