Approximately $275 million will be put into General Motor’s Ft. Wayne Assembly Plant, which will create or retain 150 jobs. The investment is being put in place to prepare the plant for the upcoming assembly of GM’s next generation of full size pickup truck. Currently, the plant runs three shifts with 3,400 employees who help manufacture the right-now generation Silverado and Sierra. This latest investment is apart of the $2 billion to be put into GM’s North American facilities.

“We remain committed to providing customers the utility and capability of our world-class full-size pickups,” said Larry Zahner, GM manufacturing manager. “This investment will allow us to continue building award-winning pickups that offer better fuel efficiency than ever before without sacrificing features and functionality.” Since July, sales of both the Sierra and Silverado have been increasing month to month. The company plans to continue that success with the next generation trucks, which should make it to market as 2013s or 2014s. Surely brawny, GM’s new attraction to alternative fuel sources might produce a different kind of truck to go alongside the macho mannerisms.
