Two automotive powerhouses announced a joint alliance that will create future all-new vehicles and help each company with global purchasing. Now working together is American General Motors and French PSA Peugeot Citroën and as of now, they two brands have set forth a long-term and broad-scale goal. Made up of two “pillars”, the partnership will focus mostly on Europe but will reach a global level on different fronts. The most notable outcome to the venture will be in the form of a common platform vehicle shared between Peugeot Citroën and GM. This product could be either a small or midsize car, MPV or crossover but the truth won’t be told until closer to its planned 2016 release date.
“This partnership brings tremendous opportunity for our two companies,” said Dan Akerson, GM chairman and CEO. Aside from the new vehicles, the alliance will also create a global purchasing joint venture. This will allow for both GM and Peugeot Citroën to obtain commodities, components and goods and services with a combined annual purchasing volume. When this happens, the two brands will act as one, global entity when it comes to buying parts from suppliers, thus lowering operating costs.
