There are few things better than a great car on a great road, but if there is one thing that can always make that experience just a little better, its infinite headroom via a convertible top. GM knows just how important a convertible is to the market, and so just weeks after announcing the new 2016 Camaro, Chevy has dumped details on the convertible version of the sixth generation muscle car.

The real headline here is not that the Camaro offers a soft top, we all knew it was coming, but rather just how well designed that top actually is. For starters, there are no more manual latches; the entire process is completely automated. Secondly, the whole system now features a hard cover for when the top is down, giving the car a much more refined look. Nobody likes to see what looks a bit like a stiff stack of blankets piled on the back of their new sports car. My second favorite new feature is the ability to open the top with the keyfob. Now that there is no manual interior latch, the top can be opened and closed with the keys. Open the top before you head out to let the interior cool off, or shut it from inside the restaurant when it looks like rain might be coming.

All of those little features pale in comparison to this though: the top can be operated at speeds up to 30 mph. As someone who has been caught in more than one sudden rainfall, there is nothing worse than trying to come screaming to a halt on the side of the road to fumble with an achingly slow automatic convertible top.

Now there is no word on how fast the new top operates, but being able to do while in motion is a great advantage.

If you want one, deliveries start in early 2016. Just in time for spring weather.
