Production will resume Monday, May 19, at a General Motors crossover vehicle assembly plant that has been on strike since April 17.
Members of UAW Local 602 today ratified a contract agreement that was reached between the local union and GM on Thursday, May 15. The union represents about 3,300 workers at the Delta Township assembly plant near Lansing, Mich.
The plant makes the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook crossovers.
UAW Local 602 President Doug Rademacher said members ratified the pact with a 74 percent approval. A GM spokesman could not be immediately reached for comment.
Earlier, Rademacher said he expected the more than 2,000 members who cast ballots at a convention center in Lansing to ratify the agreement.
“The crowd in here felt pretty positive,” he said. “There were small groups of concerns, but most of them were pretty satisfied.”
Rademacher dismissed speculation that local union strikes against GM were related to the strike by 3,650 UAW members at supplier American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc.
He said: “This agreement was about manpower, the scope of our job duties, workplace practices and protecting jobs.”
