Tim Mahoney, chief marketing officer for Global Chevrolet, said that General Motors brand’s Chevrolet will focus on China where it will celebrate 10 years of sales next year, reports The Detroit News.
Mahoney, who addressed the Adcraft Club of Detroit, said the brand sold nearly 5 million vehicles last year. At the end of 2013, two-thirds of Chevy brand sales were outside the United States.
According to Mahoney, 35 million vehicles could be sold annually in China by 2022 or 2023. He said GM will work to market Chevrolet in China through its Manchester United soccer sponsorship and it is exploring partnerships — possibly a ride — with Shanghai Disney Resort, which is slated to open in late 2015.
