Due to a slow down of demand, Ford of Europe will be idling production at its Cologne, Germany assembly plant. From now until October, the facility will shut down for select days in order to deal with the slower-than-normal turnaround. Home of the subcompact Fiesta, Cologne will be cutting its hourly worker’s schedules ever-so-slightly and the longest period of stoppage should only last for eight days.
According to an Automotive News article, the German assembly plant might only pump out around 345,000 Fiestas by the end of the year. That number is down almost six percent in comparison to normal annual capacity. Since the beginning of the year, Ford Europe has seen a small decline of sales in most of its markets. More than likely, this isn’t really their fault as government implemented measures have recently made new car purchases more “uneasy.”
