General Motors said that its new eight-speed automatic transmission will be standard on 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra and GMC Yukon Denali/Yukon XL Denalis that have the 6.2-liter EcoTec V-8 engine.
The automaker said that the eight-speed transmission is about the same size and weight as the six-speed auto transmission the trucks currently use, The Detroit News reports.
According to General Motors, the new transmission will offer benefits starting off driving with a heavy load or when they are towing something and will reduce engine rpms on the highway.
The eight-speed transmission are being built at a GM plant in Toledo.
