Looking for 2011-2012 car

Hello i'm looking to purchase my first brand new car sometimes next year. I'm not in the know about cars which is why i came to ask this question here. I'm looking for i guess the next generation of cars coming out. Can anyone recommend me or mention to me any cars with the price range of $14-17k? I'm only looking at base trim.

The only upcoming cars i know are the hyundai elantra 2011 and ford focus 2012.

It's good that you are thinking ahead, but 2010 or 2011 is a long way off. Keep an open mind. When I was looking for vehicles in 2002/2003 I was pricing out 3/4 tonne cargo vans and pickups with diesel engines to accommodate what then appeared to be my career path. Well, life took a different path and I now drive a 2004 Subaru Forester. It's the perfect vehicle for my needs and driving patterns.

I'd recommend the Subaru Impreza (sp? - small car) line for AWD, fuel mileage, sporty looks/handling, and mechanical reliability.

Already we have spy shots of the new Hyundai Elantra - which really isn't too surprising, considering the Kia Forte, its platform-twin, just replaced the aging Kia Spectra. With this newest iteration of the Elantra, Hyundai appears to be going further and further into defining their own design language, just as they've shown on the 2011 Sonata and the 2011 Kia Optima. So far, I don't find it AS good looking, but take a look at these pictures and you will see some VERY interesting details....
