Is this fair practise or dubious practise for a car insurance company?

1. Automatic renewal of policies is not stated clearly on the policy documents so customers renew and pay with out realizing. Big suprise to them
2. Inquiries about the affect on premium of having an accident causes the premium to increase even though no claim was made.
3. driving convictions are back dated and the premium is calculated from the original date of the conviction.
4 Accounts going to debt agency for non payment is charged £20. This debt agency is a department with in the company. When it is passed to an external debt agency the customer is charged another £25

It seems like standard practice for any type of insurance or insurance company...fairness never comes into it. Dubious, certainly...but common practice, definitely.

Yes I agree.... very suspicious. Do you not have an Ombudsman for short term Insurance like cars to whom you can write a complaint. we have one In South Africa, surely there must be one in the UK.

Normal practice - they are the ones taking the risk in offering insurance - along with the shareholders - they put money up front to ensure that you are covered.

If wveryone drove properly and had the honesty to admit their misdemeanours then we wouldn't have the problem and everyones insurance would be reasonably priced and the neccesity to dig deeper into a drivers background would not be needed.

Remember - it is always the ones that do not or will not insure their vehicles or those that drive like twats - that bump up the policy prices which affect you and me.

Insurance companies are protecting their interests as best they can.

As for automatic renewal - that is nothing new - it is up to you to decide which company you use - you need to look at the policy and agreement before accepting it.

Debt charges for non payment - £20 is minimal compared to some companies.

No car insurance company is fair. It's always a WIN-WIN situation for them. It's what we can call business. :)
