Food too expensive due to biofuels, no social fabric as everyine is cooped up in private cars, no freedom as there are no decent public transports, dependence on oil and the middle east eating away at our national defense and budget, road accidents and no proper universal health care, guns and drive by shootings, carjackings, kidnappings by car, ram raiding, WHY NOT JUST PROVIDE DECENT PUBLIC TRANSPORT FOR THE WHOLE USA ?
(Paid for with taxes on Gasoline so we stop using oil and can deprive hostile regimes of dollars spent now on oil)

You have to be kidding me right?

You do not want any one to own a car yet you want to pay for public transport with taxes from gasoline? How is that going to work? no car mean no gas used means no taxes to bring about your Socialistic ways.

We are a free society not a socialist society. Why don't you move to a socialist country so you can have the government take care of you.

If you do not want to own a car then don't I need my car so I am keeping it. If you do not like I am sorry.

It is impossible to go 100% public transport. If you live away from a major city like the vast majority of Americans mass trans if impossible. Plus if you provide "universal" trasport on the taxation of gas and we all stopped buying gas to use the system where would the money come from. I agree that cities should invest in mass transit to reduce emmisions and reduce our dependency on oil however there are limits.
On the note of universal health care I do no want to pay for your health care and I do not expect you to pay for mine. If you want universal health care why not just go to a communist country where everything you work and tole for is taken away to go to somebody else who suposedly "needs" it. That system does not work!
Cars have done exactly the oposite. We are able to freely move about the country wherever we want. Distance does not limit out potential to be happy human beings anymore.
So the answer is a firm NO.
