Fighting with the boyfriend over cars, money, our future?

He got a new car in February 06. The car costs roughly $27,000..that much debt at 26 years old. Me, his mother, his friends all told him it was a stupid idea to get it. He has car payments he can barely afford now. Back in February he was already in debt due to a car accident (not his fault). But he got the stupid car anyway. He owes money to several companies, my parents included (technically it's my money but my father is in control of my finances). He has yet to pay back these bills. Not only is he ruining his credit rating he is ruining his reputation with my family. I try to talk to him about it and he gets upset, like I have nothing to be mad about. He knows he has a responsibility to pay these debts back but has made no effort. Aside from his financial stupidity he's a great guy...but can I really be with something this irresponsible? Is there hope for him? How can I get him to see the decision to get the car was the stupidest thing he's ever done?

Seen many married couples when the wife takes care of all the money, gives the husband some pocket money that he can spend and no more.

You are right the car was stupid and not thinking about his future. The money could have been saved up for his future, to put a deposit on a house. What was wrong with getting a second hand car for the time being until he had all the finances.
