1997 C280 Mercedes - stuck in 1st gear

My daughter has a 1997 C280 Mercedes that won't go above 15-16 miles an hour. The RPMs rev but it does not seem to get out of 1st gear. She has taken it to our auto repair shop however they can't figure it out so she is towing it to the dealer. The shop thought it was the shift interlock.

Any help would be great

No I did not however she did get it fixed at the Mercedes dealer. It was the shifter assembly and it cost about $400 for the part - total bill was between $500 and $600. Our regular mechanic installed a used part and it did not work so we had to take it to the dealer. When they took it to the dealer they said you can not installed a used shifter assembly since this part marries itself to the car over a period of time. I know the labor from our main mechanic is cheaper per hour however it did not take the dealer long and we got a list of other things to fix on it also. Which was nice to have.
