It is official: the 2012 Ford Focus Electric is now America’s most fuel-efficient five passenger car. After testing, the EPA has stamped a MPGe (electric equivalent) rating of 110 in the city and 99 MPGe on the highway. With a combined 105 MPGe, the zero emissions hatchback has managed to beat its main competition, the Nissan LEAF, and does so with a higher power rating. Not only did the EPA give the car an economy rating, but during their evaluation, a certified range was given as well: 76 miles on a single charge.
Ford is giving customers the power of choice for leading fuel economy regardless of what type of vehicle or powertrain technology they choose,” said Eric Kuehn, chief nameplate engineer for the Focus Electric. Orders and deliveries of the zero emissions car are currently working. By the end of 2012, Ford looks to have the car available t0 19 markets across the United States. To keep things fresh, the Focus Electric can be charged faster than its competition using an exclusive 240 volt system. In just four hours, a full charge can be achieved. And even though the EPA has put a 76 mile range on the car, Ford says that up to 100 miles can be had.
