Ford Motor Company’s first ever global performance vehicle recently fell into the hands of the EPA and the returned results were, without a doubt, impressive. With 252 horsepower, 270 lb-ft of torque and a single turbocharger, the 2013 Focus ST is rather quick while staying rather prudent. Able to average 32 mpg on the highway, the hot hatch has earned the highest mileage rating in its class making it more economical than the Volkswagen GTI and the Mazda Mazdaspeed 3.
“This kind of performance combined with these high levels of efficiency sets a new benchmark with this car,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president of Global Product Development. Motivated by Ford’s first high-output variant of the EcoBoost inline four cylinder, the ST can both rock a stoplight drag race and average 23 mpg in the city. Given that the car uses a six speed manual transmission, a higher rating is surly possible.
