As of late, Ford Motor Company has been on a role and a decent amount of the company’s success can be attributed to their new line up of global engines. In order to keep up with demand, the automaker’s powertrain plant in India recently completed an expansion that will allow annual capacity to increase by 36 percent. Now a regional small engine hub, the facility is the first Ford plant with a singular production line for both diesel and gasoline engines.

“We are delighted to see this new addition to our capacity in the Engine Plant as we gear up to move to the next stage of growth in India and the region,” said Michael Boneham, president and managing director of Ford India. With the recent expansion, the plant now has the ability to pump out 340,000 engines a year. Finished in a strong 14 months, the larger facility can conduct a cold test, hot test and dyno test so that each powerplant gets finished just right. The total number of Ford engines built at the Indian plant is 17: 12 of them being Duratec gasoline blocks while five are Duratorq diesels. Demand for the glowplug powered mills was a driving force behind the expansion as nearly 40 percent of the engines produced will be exported.
