Ford is officially going racing at Le Mans again. The new Ford GT is the basis for Ford’s newest Le Mans car, and it will return to the track in 2016 for the 50th anniversary of Ford’s very first Le Mans win with the original GT40. The car will compete in the full schedule of races for both the FIA World Endurance Championship and the Tudor United SportsCar Championship. Thanks to the choice of Ford to use a new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 motor for the production car, there will need to be no major changes to the engine for the racer. Aside from weight ballasting and intake restrictors, the road version of the Ford GT will be very similar to the racing version.

To celebrate the announcement Ford has created what may just be the greatest car video I have seen in years. It starts with the classic Ford GT40 and its first win at Le Mans, and then you get to see the car visual morph into the all-new 2016 racer. It is magical. After the change, watch the car blast around Paris, and listen to that wild V6 roar.
