Due to failing to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 114, Theft Protection, Ford will be recalling various F-Series pickups. The trucks affected are certain 2011 model year F-150s and 2012 model year F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550s. When equipped with an automatic transmission, these vehicles have the potential of being shifted out of park without the brake pedal depressed. The blame can be placed upon the brake shift interlock switch, which is simply faulty. Not only could this make it easier for a pickup to be stolen, but it increases the risk of trucks just rolling away.

As of now, Ford is looking into a total of 16,091 trucks to recall. The light-duties affected were built between September 9 and September 22, 2011. The heavy-duty trucks are at risk if manufactured from September 12 through September 22, 2011. Ford is looking to begin the recall on or around December 19 at which point they will notify owners. Certified dealers will inspect the transmission’s shifter and if necessary, replace the brake shift interlock switch. This remedy will take place at no extra cost to owners.
