For failing to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 202- Head Restraints- Ford Motor Company will recall a few of its full size SUVs. Both the Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition are at risk as the welds for the head restraint support brackets may be faulty. The issue is rather specific as it Ford believes it is just the second row, right-hand seat that is affected. If involved in a crash, the welds could fail ultimately causing the seat belt system to not work.
At this point, approximately 569 SUVs are at risk according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Both Navigators and Expeditions are 2012 model years manufactured from November 19 through December 2, 2011. The full safety recall is expected to start on or around February 20, 2012 at which point Ford will begin notifying customers. Certified dealers will remedy the problem by fully replacing the head restraints and do so at no extra cost to owners.
