With each piece of new information regarding the upcoming 2013 Ford Fusion, the fact is clear that the car simply wants to save you money. When it hits the streets later this year, the sedan will bring with it a shopping cart full of new tricks and features, many of which were designed to create the most efficient four door on the market. One system, Ford’s Auto Start-Stop, will be priced to a point where drivers will not only save money at the pump, but they’ll save a substantial amount at the initial buy in. For just $295, a Fusion can use zero fuel while sitting at excessively long traffic light.

Admittedly, auto start-stop features are not that innovative as they have been in existence for years now. What is special about the Ford’s is its cost, which compared to other offerings, is thousands of dollars less. They system simply shuts off the engine when stopped for a prolonged period of time and automatically gets things going again when forward motion is called upon. In average city driving, the Auto Start-Stop equipped Fusion should increase fuel economy by about 3.5 percent compared to one without the feature. Combine that with the already thrifty 1.6 liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine, and the 2013 Fusion should keep driver’s wallets full and happy.

We expect the average Fusion driver with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine and Auto Start-Stop will save about $1,100 more than other midsize sedan owners during five years of driving,” said Samantha Hoyt, Fusion marketing manager. “That’s cash in their pocket and time saved with fewer trips to the pump.”
