Ford Motor plans to offer a special engine as an option on its F-150 for the 2014 model year, reports The Detroit News.

The special engine will be able to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Ford will become, this fall, the first manufacturer with an available CNG-LPG-capable half-ton pickup truck. The automaker expects to sell about 15,000 CNG-LPG vehicles this year, the newspaper reports.

“If installed by one of Ford’s qualified vehicle modifiers, CNG and LPG upfits will maintain the engine’s warranty and cost between $7,500 and $9,500 for the F-150. Prices vary based on whether a customer wants to add CNG or LPG tanks to accompany the gasoline tank or remove the gasoline tank and add in extra CNG or LPG tanks,” according to the news report.
