Ford has a perplexing history of given up some of its coolest features to its European outfit and recently, that trend was proven once again. Available now on the across-the-pond Focus is an electric retractable tow bar which makes hitching up to just about anything simply easier. The segment-first feature is conveniently stored under the rear bumper until called upon at which point, it fully extends to offer up to 1,500kg of towing capacity. Born to the market only seven months ago, the device is already outselling all other fixed and manually retractable bars made by Ford.
Offered on all Focus body styles, the bar comes with a 13-pin socket to supply energy to all types of trailers. When ordered, a Focus will also be equipped with Trailer Sway Control and Hill Start Assist at no extra cost. These systems further the hauling ease of an already handy car by preventing roll backs and mitigating the stability control for the added weight of a trailer. Ford is currently working towards launching an electric retractable tow bar for the Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy.
