Both the 2013 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ will call the Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly Plant located in Mexico home and in order to make it more accommodating, a heavy investment will be made. The midsize sedans will be made better via $1.3 billion and 1,000 newly created job openings. With both vehicles come a new wave of innovation for Ford Motor Company and given the Fusion’s expansion into plug-in hybrid territory and the MKZ’s front-running for the Lincoln reinvention, the investment makes solid sense. Both sedans will need all the help they can get when they hit the North American streets for the first time later this year.
“Ford is making a significant investment in this facility and a significant commitment to the employees here while also transforming our vehicle lineup for customers throughout North America,” said Mark Fields, Ford President of The Americas. Since 2005, the Fusion sedan has been built at the Hermosillo plant located in the heart of Sonora, Mexico. For the 2013 model year, a myriad of new-for-Ford technologies will debut on the sculpted four door which should bring similar sales figures that the previous generations were known for. Closely related to the Fusion, the MKZ will be the first of seven all-new or significantly upgraded Lincoln models to debut before 2015. “The midsize sedan market is significant, growing and one of the most competitive in the industry. With our all-new Fusion and Lincoln MKZ lineups, we have the fuel economy, quality, technology and vehicle choices to win customers like never before,” said Fields.
