Ford Motor Company announced recently that next week, order ‘forms’ for the upcoming 2012 Focus Electric will be open to the public. On November 2, the zero emissions version of the popular compact will be able to be customized and reserved as production will start before 2011 is over. Even though Ford currently sells the electric Transit Connect commercial van, it is intended for fleet purposes making the Focus EV the first of its kind. When the car hits the streets, it will be the company’s first fully electric and rechargeable passenger car and the first to work with Ford’s new 240-volt home charging system. Full recharges can occur in as little as three hours using the system.
The Focus Electric will join other economy-minded vehicles that seem to be building the brand’s current line up. The EcoBoost turbocharged engines are finding their way under more and more blue oval hoods. This, according to Ford, offers buyers with a plethora of options when picking out a vehicle. “Drivers want fuel economy choices – not a one-size-fits-all solution – and Ford is leading the way,” said Mark Fields, Ford’s president of The Americas.
