The current generation Ford Explorer has one more title to put under its belt: the fastest selling midsize utility in the nation. As of now, Ford has sold more than 100,000 units since the start of 2011. Compared to this time last year, that figure is up 290 percent. Holding a 6.3 percent retail share of all U.S. spec midsize SUVs, the Explorer has increased its holding 4.5 points from 2010. According to Amy Marentic, group marketing manager for Ford, the last time the vehicle surpassed the 100,000 sales mark was back in 2007.
“With best-in-class fuel economy and technology like MyFord Touch®, terrain management and the world’s first second-row inflatable seat belts, Ford has shown that our dedication to customers’ needs is paying off,” said Marentic. Ford might see an even larger increase in sales with the recently introduced EcoBoost Explorer. The 2.0 liter turbocharged inline four cylinder is becoming more popular, especially in larger city-type states. The engine’s largest uptake has been seen in Orlando, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas.
