At the end of 2007, Ford Motor Company hit a milestone by selling more than 2 million cars and trucks in the United States. The remarkable accomplishment was celebrated but never happened again as they fell short of the number each following year. That is until now as 2011 ended with the blue oval selling more than 2 million vehicles once again. Overall, that figure managed to give Ford the title of best-selling brand in America for the year. “Ford’s lineup of high-quality, fuel-efficient cars, utilities and trucks continues to attract more and more new customers,” said Erich Merkle, Ford’s sales analysis manager.
There are numerous reasons for Ford’s successful year, but one in particular deals with fuel mileage. 2011 was easily the year of the EcoBoost as the turbocharged technology found its way under the hood of more than a few Fords. Accompanied by the subcompact Fiesta and all-new compact Focus, there is a solid mix of high efficiency naturally aspirated engines and forced air blocks. For the 2012 model year, nearly one-third of the brand’s entire model line will feature 40 plus mpg.
